Blackmagic Camera app LUTs: import, monitor, record
The free Blackmagic Camera app accepts standard 3D .cube LUTs. Here is the full process, from file to finished clip.
How to import LUTs into Blackmagic Camera (iOS)
- Download the .cube file and make sure it is saved on the device in the Files app (an iCloud file that hasn't finished downloading will fail to import). Unzip packs first — the app can't read .zip.
- Open Blackmagic Camera, tap the settings icon and find the LUTs section, then choose import and pick your .cube from Files.
- Set the recording codec / color space to Apple Log (or Apple Log 2 on iPhone 17 Pro) so the input matches the LUT.
- Select the LUT and turn on display so you monitor through it.
- Decide: monitor only (records clean Log, best for later grading) or apply to the recording (bakes the look into the file, no editing needed). Menu wording varies by app version.
Android version of the app works the same way, but supported phones and Log options differ.
Which LUT version for Blackmagic Camera?
If you record Apple Log, use the Apple Log version of a look — it includes the Log→709 conversion. Using a Rec709 look on Log is why images look flat and grey. Don't know which you shot? See the iPhone LUT version table.
